Black Life: Awon Ohun Omnira

Programmed by Chika Okoye and David Brazil

East Bay choir Awon Ohun Omnira taps into the roots of African faith and culture through old Yoruba songs that honor the ancestors and praise the divine, accompanied by the traditional, sacred African drums known as Bata and through the Ring Shout, a feature of the invisible church of enslaved Africans. You are invited to participate in this moving performance.

Awon Ohun Omnira features musical director Tobaji Stewart, drummers Calvin Holmes and Sosu Randolph, narrator Wanda Ravernell, and vocalists Estrella Ramey, Judith Angeles, and Acacia Woods-Chan.
