In conjunction with his exhibition Arthur Jafa/ MATRIX 272, artist, director, editor, and award-winning cinematographer Arthur Jafa joins writer, cultural producer, and musician Greg Tate for a public conversation before the program Affective Proximity: Films by Arthur Jafa and Others. Jafa's poignant, critically acclaimed work expands the concept of black cinema while exploring African American experience and race relations in everyday life. For this screening, Jafa has selected films that look at the effects of violence on black indiviudals and communities while also depicting their beauty, power, and resilience. 

Curator’s Circle members have special access to a limited number of seats at what will surely be a sold-out event. Come early to view Jafa's newly commissioned video, The White Album, which made its debut in BAMPFA's current MATRIX installation, then gather at 6 PM in Babette for a Curator’s Circle member reception with wine and small bites. From the reception we will head into the Barbro Osher Theater for the public screening and conversation, which begins at 7 PM.
