Eden
Félix de Givry, Pauline Etienne, Vincent Macaigne, Hugo Conzelmann,
Chronicling the emergence of the house music scene in Paris in the 1990s and twenty years in the life of a DJ who was part of it, Eden draws on the experience of Sven Hansen-Løve, a contemporary of Daft Punk and the director’s brother, who cowrote the screenplay. At once epic and intimate, the film documents both the ecstatic pleasure of the music scene and the toll that the lifestyle and time itself ultimately exact. In a departure for Hansen-Løve, whose films are lauded for scenes shot on 35mm in dazzling daylight, here she and cinematographer Denis Lenoir brilliantly employ digital technology and the “unnatural” available light of nightclub interiors.
Note: a previously announced in-person appearance by Hansen-Løve has been canceled.
