Gabrielle Selz on Light on Fire: The Art and Life of Sam Francis with Frances Dinkelspiel

The award-winning author of Unstill Life: A Daughter’s Memoir of Art and Love in the Age of Abstraction, Gabrielle Selz, introduces her new biography of the artist Sam Francis, Light on Fire: The Art and Life of Sam Francis (UC Press). Drawing on exclusive interviews and private correspondence, Selz traces the life of this complex and charismatic artist, who brought the vocabulary of abstract expressionism to Paris.

Selz is joined in conversation by noted journalist and author Frances Dinkelspiel, cofounder of the nonprofit news organization Cityside, which operates Berkeleyside and The Oaklandside. Her most recent book, Tangled Vines: Greed, Murder, Obsession, and an Arsonist in the Vineyards of California, is a New York Times and San Francisco Chronicle bestseller. The conversation is followed by a book signing.
