Rita Moreno: From Puerto Rico to Stardom with Fernanda Fisher
The daughter of celebrated actress Rita Moreno, Fernanda Fisher has been involved in the arts throughout her life. In this event hosted by Kathryn Roszak, Fisher will talk about Puerto Rico, her mother’s rise to stardom, and her own creative career.
Fernanda Fisher grew up in New York City, where she attended Brearley School and danced under George Balanchine at the School of American Ballet. After moving to Los Angeles in her teens, she attended Westlake School and later earned degrees in drama from Tufts University and USC. She worked extensively in theater and television and was a backup singer and dancer in her mother’s nightclub act for many years. In the 1990s she settled in the Bay Area; while raising two children and performing when opportunities arose, she attended California College of the Arts and founded her own jewelry design business, Nandiz Designs. She continues to create jewelry pieces that are featured in stores nationwide, and to dance and act locally.
