"Contemporary South Africa is a hybridized culture. I think that's quite special and isn't something that we always see, " says Karabo Poppy Moletsane, the South African artist whose mural, the latest commission for BAMPFA's Art Wall, is on view through July 15. Describing her inspiration for the work, her first museum exhibition in the US, she says, "I'd see people taking photos of this African aesthetic, but it was always people who were non-African studying Africa. And that just inspired me to say, 'How would things look if an African studied an African aesthetic?'"
