Presented in cooperation with The Film Center of the Art Institute of Chicago and Romaniafilm in Bucharest. Special thanks to the Romanian Library in New York, the Romanian Embassy in Washington, Mr. Dan Pita, Mr. Adrian Petringenaru, Ms. Manuela Cernat and Mr. Andrei Blaier for their help in arranging this series.
The Romanian cinema has flowered since the 1970s with films that, in the finest Eastern European tradition, mix high production values with keen observation and excellent acting. In addition to recent works by such outstanding directors as Dan Pita, Alexandru Tatos, Andrei Blaier and Mircea Daneliuc, whose works have presented us with a refreshingly different cinema at film festivals over the last decade, Discovering Romanian Cinema introduces new talents and new films to our conception of this extraordinarily rich and diverse culture.
