Polish director-in-exile Krzysztof Zanussi presents his two latest films, both released in 1982. Made in West Germany but in English language, both films feature British actors. Krzysztof Zanussi earned considerable international recognition with his 1973 film, Illuminations, but his earlier films had already shown him to be in the vanguard of the “second wave” of contemporary Polish filmmakers and of the Eastern European cinema in general. The Structure of Crystals (1969), Family Life (1971), Behind the Wall (1971) and Illuminations all reflect Zanussi's background as a student of physics and philosophy in their investigation into the moral lives of scientific professionals. Zanussi's recent films include Camouflage (1977), Roads in the Night (1979), The Constant Factor and The Contract (both 1980).
