Gallery Talk: Kathryn Roszak on Get Dancin’

Kathryn Roszak offers a dancer’s insights into Get Dancin’, a selection of artworks portraying dance in its many aspects. She will focus on images of dancers whom she especially admires, including Barbara Morgan’s iconic photograph of the legendary Martha Graham and Abraham Walkowicz’s delightfully whimsical watercolor of Isadora Duncan.

Roszak is a curator, choreographer, and producer recognized for her company Danse Lumière’s work combining literature and the arts. She has collaborated on performances with Maxine Hong Kingston and is currently producing a film inspired by the poetry of Tomas Tranströmer. Her dance and theater productions have been presented by Cal Performances at UC Berkeley; the Smithsonian Institution, Washington, DC; and the 92nd Street Y and La MaMa Theatre in New York. She has choreographed and taught for the San Francisco Opera Center and the American Conservatory Theatre, and led courses on dance, opera, film, and theater for UC Berkeley’s Osher Lifelong Learning Institute, where she will teach the class The Great Choreographers this spring.
