Poet Garrett Caples on Sylvia Fein

Sylvia Fein is unable to participate in the program as previously announced. In lieu of a conversation, Garrett Caples, who has written on Fein's work, will present an illustrated talk about her life and art.

On the occasion of her MATRIX exhibition, poet Garrett Caples will present a talk on Bay Area painter Sylvia Fein’s life and art, from her student days in Wisconsin in the 1940s and her time in Mexico during World War II to her most recent work, which continues her engagement with Surrealism and the egg tempera medium.

San Francisco–based Garrett Caples has written numerous essays on art, music, and literature, some of which were collected in Retrievals (2014). He is also an editor at City Lights, where he curates the Spotlight Poetry Series.
