The Holy Mountain
Alejandro Jodorowsky, Horacio Salinas, Zamira Saunders, Juan Ferrara,
Inspired by René Daumal’s novel Mount Analogue, as well as Alejandro Jodorowsky’s own spiritual studies and psychedelic experiences, The Holy Mountain is a trip in itself. The story of one man’s quest for enlightenment unfolds in a dizzying array of surreal set pieces. The film’s deeply sacrilegious and antimilitaristic imagery remains as beautiful and shocking today as when it first scandalized audiences at the Cannes Film Festival in 1973. Unseen for many years due to a dispute with the producer, it is only in the past decade that Jodorowsky’s alchemical puzzle has once again been illuminating cinema screens for a new generation of viewers.
