No Other Land

  • Introduction

Ussama Makdisi is a Professor of History and Chancellor’s Chair at UC Berkeley.

Made over five years by a collective of filmmakers led by Palestinian activist Basel Adra and Israeli journalist Yuval Abraham, No Other Land chronicles the attempts of the inhabitants of Masafer Yatta, a group of Palestinian villages in the West Bank, to resist the systematic destruction of their homes, schools, and businesses by the Israeli military, which claims the “legal” right to expropriate the land. In counterpoint to the intractable brutality of the situation, there is a glimmer of hope in the depiction of respect and friendship that develops between Adra and Abraham despite the stark inequity predetermined by politics.
