Elizabeth Ferrell, associate professor of art history at Arcadia University and an alumna of UC Berkeley’s History of Art Department, introduces her new book, About The Rose: Creation and Community in Jay DeFeo’s Circle. Ferrell examines the creative exchange that developed around The Rose, the monumental painting that San Francisco artist Jay DeFeo (1929–1989) worked on almost exclusively from 1958 to 1966.
