Conversation: Candice Lin, Mel Y. Chen, and Victoria Sung on Seeping, Rotting, Resting, Weeping
Join Candice Lin, Mel Y. Chen, and Victoria Sung for a wide-ranging conversation about the exhibition Seeping, Rotting, Resting, Weeping in the context of animals, animality, and theories of interspecies assemblage.
Lin’s work addresses themes of race, gender, and sexuality in relation to material histories. An assistant professor of art at UCLA, Lin has received the American Academy Berlin Prize Fellowship, UCLA Hellman Fellowship, and Joan Mitchell Painters and Sculptors Grant, among other awards.
Chen is associate professor of gender and women’s studies at UC Berkeley and director of the Center for the Study of Sexual Culture. They write in diverse venues, including art criticism, and authored Animacies: Biopolitics, Racial Matterings, and Queer Affect and the forthcoming book Intoxicated.
Sung is associate curator of visual arts at the Walker Art Center, Minneapolis, where she works with artists to create exhibitions, publications, and public programs. Recent and upcoming projects include solo shows with Pacita Abad, Siah Armajani, Theaster Gates, Laure Prouvost, Rayyane Tabet, and Shen Xin.
