Still going strong at nearly 92 years old, the renowned Swedish storyteller Astrid Lindgren is one of the most prolific writers of children's literature. In the U.S., she is best known for her ever-popular character Pippi Long stocking, who was a part of our International Children's Film Festival in 1997. This year we are pleased to bring you a collection of Lindgren characters in a series of films derived from just a few of her more than thirty books. From Rasmus to Madicken to Kalle Blomkvist, Lindgren has created a string of wonderful characters with whom children can easily connect. Her remarkable ability to both comprehend and capture the heart and mind of a child is the secret behind her success in entertaining and inspiring generations of children worldwide for over fifty years. Saturday January 8, 2000. The World of Astrid Lindgren is presented by The Swedish Institute, in cooperation with the Swedish Information Service in San Francisco.
