Film and Video Makers at Cal, an annual spring series at PFA, brings together young filmmakers and curators in a collective celebration of their desire to see, record, and transform the world. For a university that has no film or video production department per se, there are an astounding number and range of works being made at Cal, and now is the time to see them. Not only are the pieces made in a wide array of departments-including Film Studies, Ethnic Studies, Art, Anthropology, and the School of Journalism-and by students with wildly divergent interests, aesthetics, and training, but they have been thoughtfully selected and arranged by student curators who are equally diverse in their interests and backgrounds. Students and the public alike will be amazed at the eclectic work being produced, impressed by the determination that got it done, and perhaps inspired to make more.
