3 Women
Shelley Duvall, Sissy Spacek, Janice Rule, Robert Fortier,
Young Texan Pinky Rose (Sissy Spacek), new to the California desert, takes a job at a rehabilitation and nursing center for seniors and finds herself in the thrall of her extroverted coworker and eventual roommate, Millie Lammoreaux (Shelley Duvall, Best Actress at the Cannes Film Festival). Despite her adherence to all of the commercially prescribed fashions of the time, Millie is unpopular, which appears to go unnoticed by Pinky, who looks on in awe. Their shared obliviousness gives way to a dissociative fissure and fusion of identity. “3 Women is a film whose provocative schizophrenia is both gripping and contagious” (Kier-La Janisse).
