Visiting Lou Sullivan with Ellis Martin and Zach Ozma

Programmed by Lukaza Branfman-Verissimo

Join artists Ellis Martin and Zach Ozma in a celebration of queer ancestor Lou Sullivan, arguably the first publicly gay trans man to medically transition. This experiential afternoon features readings from We Both Laughed in Pleasure: The Selected Diaries of Lou Sullivan, which narrates the inner life of a gay man moving through the shifting social, political, and medical mores of the second half of the 20th century. Martin and Ozma will discuss their process of editing the diaries, and a listening station will offer never-before-released audiovisual excerpts from Sullivan’s archive. Ephemera and material surrounding Lou’s legacy will be available as a risograph-printed newspaper takeaway, a nod to his years typesetting The Gateway and FTM newsletters.
