Reading: Jori Finkel
Arts journalist Jori Finkel (The New York Times and The Art Newspaper) introduces her new book It Speaks to Me, in which fifty celebrated artists from New York to New Delhi talk about the eye-opening and thought-provoking art that has inspired them. Highlights include David Hockney on Edgar Degas, Shirin Neshat on Alice Neel, Marina Abramovic on Umberto Boccioni, Ai Weiwei on a Shang Dynasty jade, Judy Chicago on Agnes Pelton, and Mark Bradford on Mark Rothko. LA Weekly calls the book “must-read material for anyone interested in how art history shapes itself across time, place, and the lives of individuals.”
A regular contributor to the New York Times from the West Coast, Finkel has written for ARTnews, Art in America, W, and Art+Auction magazine, where she was formerly senior editor. She lectures widely on contemporary art, and has contributed to CNN, PBS, and NPR broadcasts as part of her project of making contemporary art more accessible.
