Plinio Hernandez is an educator and project-based artist who holds a BFA in photography from Otis College of Art and Design and an MFA from UC Berkeley. Issues of migration and identity are materialized in his drawings, sculpture, video, performance, and writing. He has exhibited and taught extensively in both California and Mexico. Currently, he is a full-time art teacher at REALM Charter High School in Berkeley.

Visit the exhibition Martin Wong: Human Instamatic to see how the artist used American Sign Language finger spelling in some of his paintings. Then, using slogans, statements, and positive-affirmation words written in the ASL alphabet, learn about this compelling visual language as you create your own response to artworks in the exhibition.

About Gallery + Studio
