Dance and theater artist Joe Goode will talk about how Buddhist philosophy has changed his working method from a preordained “vision” to a process of discovery. Goode is a professor in the Department of Theater, Dance, and Performance Studies at UC Berkeley and the artistic director of Joe Goode Performance Group, with whom he has performed throughout the Americas and the Middle East. He is the recipient of numerous awards and fellowships, including the New York Dance and Performance Award (“Bessie”) for his production of Deeply There. His play Body Familiar was commissioned by the Magic Theatre San Francisco and premiered there to acclaim in 2003. Goode’s newest work, The Undefended Heart, will be presented February 21 through March 3 at Zellerbach Playhouse as part of the Berkeley Dance Project.
