Greg Niemeyer: Video Across the Arts: Film and Cinema
When does video become art? Looking at examples of the long, and perhaps parallel, histories of cinema and video art, Greg Niemeyer discusses how we can distinguish these two art forms, why it matters, and how video art is different from the reels, clips, and snippets of social media.
Greg Niemeyer is a data artist. Niemeyer cofounded the Berkeley Center for New Media, focusing on the critical analysis of new media and human experiences. His work looks at data circulations among individuals, communities, and environments. His projects often materialize data in a way that people can feel. He is professor of media innovation, Toban Fellow, and director of the Art Practice Graduate Program.
