Gene Luen Yang: Character Development Aesthetics
The creative mastermind behind American Born Chinese, Avatar: The Last Airbender, Boxers and Saints, and Dragon Hoops, renowned cartoonist and graphic novelist Gene Luen Yang (@geneluenyang) weaves deeply personal and realistic narratives that celebrate ordinary people with extraordinary abilities. Join him for an exploration of the ways image and text can support powerful messages, and a discussion of the origins and development of his distinctive narrative aesthetic.
Yang is a recipient of a MacArthur Fellowship, the Eisner Award, the Publishers Weekly Comics Week Best Comic of the Year, the San Francisco Chronicle Best Book of the Year, the Best Book Award from the Chinese American Librarians Association, and Amazon.com’s Best Graphic Novel / Comic of the Year.
