Curator’s Talk: Joel Smith on Peter Hujar
Joel Smith, Richard L. Menschel Curator and Department Head of Photography at the Morgan Library & Museum, who organized the exhibition, will share insights into Hujar’s arresting vision of the downtown Manhattan underground of the 1970s and 1980s.
Smith is the first curator of photography in the history of the Morgan. His publications include Edward Steichen: The Early Years (1999), Steinberg at The New Yorker (2005), The Life and Death of Buildings: On Photography and Time (2011), and the catalog Peter Hujar: Speed of Life (2017).
