Lin, a visiting scholar at the UC Berkeley Center for Buddhist Studies, examines two works featured in Master Traces, Transcultural Visions—a portrait of the Fifth Karmapa Deshin Shekpa, and paintings from a set depicting the Dalai Lama’s reincarnation lineage—to highlight the importance of lineage and courtly culture in Tibetan Buddhism.
