Curators’ Talk: Andrea Andersson and Julia Bryan-Wilson on Cecilia Vicuña

Exhibition co-curators Andrea Andersson, chief curator of the visual arts at the Contemporary Arts Center, New Orleans, and Julia Bryan-Wilson, professor of modern and contemporary art and director of the Arts Research Center at UC Berkeley, discuss Cecilia Vicuña’s work, including issues of lost languages and the politics of ephemerality, in this exhibition walkthrough.

Andersson’s scholarship traces the legacy of the interdisciplinary avant-garde in contemporary art practice with particular interest in today’s Global South. Among her recent publications are Cecilia Vicuña: About to Happen and Postscript: Writing After Conceptual Art, an edited collection of essays about conceptual writing.

Bryan-Wilson is the author of Art Workers: Radical Practice in the Vietnam War Era; Art in the Making: Artists and Their Materials from the Studio to Crowdsourcing (with Glenn Adamson); and Fray: Art and Textile Politics.
