Gallery + Studio: A Landscape in Your Pocket

For ages 6 to 12 with accompanying adult(s)

  • With artist

Originally from Bogotá, Colombia, Marcela Florez holds an MFA in printmaking from the San Francisco Art Institute and has taught at Southern Exposure, LA Commons, the de Young Museum, and BAMPFA. In her own practice, she makes drawings, collages, and prints of historical texts, maps, and imaginary geographies.

After an interactive tour of Hinges: Sakaki Hyakusen and the Birth of Nanga Painting, experiment with a range of drawing materials on Japanese paper to create value and tone, and build an imaginary landscape on your own miniature folding screen. Workshop led by Marcela Florez.

About Gallery + Studio

On the second Saturday of each month, Gallery + Studio connects art viewing with art making in ways that engage both young people and their grown-ups. Each two-part workshop integrates an interactive gallery tour with a related art project, and lasts about an hour and a half. Sign up on site beginning fifteen minutes before the session you wish to attend. Space is limited to twelve kids per session; please arrive promptly to sign up.
