Kaya Fortune is an arts educator whose practice includes fashion design. He believes art is a healing force in children’s lives and encourages his students to find their own voice and identity through art making. Teaching art to children is Fortune’s inspiration for creating and exhibiting his own work.

Explore how Hans Hofmann used color, form, and space to create depth and feeling in his work. Then, work with artist Kaya Fortune to make a mixed-media art piece using watercolor, geometric shapes, and oil pastels, and see how contrasting colors push and pull against each other to create mood.

About Gallery + Studio
On the second Saturday of each month, Gallery + Studio connects art viewing with art making in ways that engage both young people and their grown-ups. Each two-part workshop integrates an interactive gallery tour with a related art project, and lasts about an hour and a half. Sign up on site beginning fifteen minutes before the session you wish to attend. Space is limited to twelve kids per session; please arrive promptly to sign up.
