Vickie Price is a school librarian for the West Contra Costa Unified School District.

At Virtual Roundtable Reading, young readers are invited to read aloud to each other from the opening pages of a good book. We will read from on-screen text for about forty-five minutes. A few days later, children who participated in the session will get a copy of the book in the mail to continue reading at home. Sign up for this event on Wednesday, May 5 or Thursday, May 6, when the sign-up link will be active on this page. The meeting link will be sent to you on the morning of Saturday, May 8.

What’s up with the massive space cruiser parked high in the stratosphere, and what if the aliens inside are planning to invade Earth? Hannah feels it’s up to her to find out, and maybe even to save the world! But first, she and her skeptical best friend Mia have to figure out what they’re saving the world from. As the girls’ detective work proceeds, they uncover clues that could solve other mysteries in their town, like finding out who vandalized the local playground. Can a pair of middle-school detectives really save the world?
