Raphael Noz holds an MS in education from Wheelock College and an MFA from California College of the Arts. His multidisciplinary art has been exhibited at venues including BAMPFA and Yerba Buena Center for the Arts. He currently works as a teaching artist at the de Young Museum.

Virtual Gallery + Studio integrates art on view at BAMPFA with a related art project; the session lasts about an hour. Sign up on Wednesday and Thursday, December 8 and 9, to receive a Zoom link on Saturday, December 11.

Join us for a fun session combining personal awareness and expressive poster making inspired by the work of Oakland’s own activist-artist Favianna Rodriguez. Before the workshop, think of two short statements or word combinations that express positive thoughts about how you want to be in the world. Then experiment with colorful cut-out shapes to make a dynamic composition to keep you inspired and powerful.

Materials and Preparation
Before we meet, think of two short statements or word combinations that express something positive about how you want to be in the world.

Please gather and prepare these materials before our session:

  • Cut-out shapes from the downloadable shape templates from this webpage. Please cut out these shapes before the workshop.
  • Colored construction paper (at least 9 x 12 inches, larger sizes even better!)
  • Pencil for sketching
  • Markers, crayons, and/or colored pencils
  • Scissors
  • Glue or glue-stick
  • Large white paper for your background (11 x 17 inches or 9 x 18 inches). You can also make this by combining two 8 1/2 x 11 inch sheets, or two 9 x 12 inch sheets, side by side, or by cutting open a paper bag to make a large, poster-size surface.

Optional

  • Tissue paper
  • Washi tape or masking tape
  • Letter stencils

Please print out and cut the shapes out of the templates before we meet.
